iPad Inventory/Software Update Information from Mr. Hilliard.

Last Friday, DMS began the iPad inventory check required by the school district. We checked most 6th grade iPad's and several iPad's from both 7th and 8th grade. We will continue our iPad inventory check for the remainder of the school on September 17th. Before then, please be sure your child updates his or her iPad to the latest iOS operating system and that he or she backs up all school work and pictures. There is a slight possibility that the iPad will need to be wiped. Please take precautions to protect and save your child's information. I am attaching a link that will take you through step-by-step on how to back up your child's iPad (click this link). If you are a new student to DMS, we will begin issuing iPads August 31st. Instructions for updating the iPad to iOS 8.4.1: Click on setting, then click on Software update. If the iPad is update it will say "iPad is up to date", if not please click update and agree and the process will automatically update your child's iPad.

School Starts Monday!

Downing Parents and Students,

We are all ready and so very excited to have the students back on Monday morning! Remember the building is open for students to arrive at 7:30 AM. Please review the traffic flow patterns for dropping off and picking up your students. It is located on our website under the News and Announcement section named DMS Orientation Information (if you click on it there is a link to the presentation and the traffic patterns are a few slides into the presentation). Also remember if you indicated a need for a schedule change that the new schedule will be delivered to the existing first period class. We have worked so hard to get everything ready and are really excited to start this new school year! Let us know if you need anything!

New Math TEKS Overview

In 2012, the State Board of Education approved revisions for the mathematics standards to be fully implemented in 2014-2015 for grades K-8 and 2015-2016 for grades 9-12. The new TEKS will be implemented in all grade levels, Kindergarten through Pre-Calculus, in the 2015-2016 school year. The changes that have occurred include some shifting of TEKS to different grade levels and courses as well as newly written TEKS being added.

Welcome Back Parents and Students!

We are excitedly preparing for the new school year and looking forward to having the students back on campus! I wanted to remind you all of a couple of things that you can get done to make the transition from summer to school a little easier.

First, your beginning of the year forms are ready for you to complete in Skyward. This will mean you need to go into Family Access and click on the 15-16 Forms Packet tab. Then Click on your student’s name and complete all the form listed. This will entail reviewing the information and submit each form and at the end of the last form you will need to do a final submission. It will prompt you to do this.

Second, if you choose to take the district insurance package for your child’s Ipad then you will need to go to the Fee Management tab in Skyward Family Access. Click on Make a payment, then click on update payment amount (this populates the $40 in the box), then click on the pay charge box, then click on update cart, finally click on pay with vendor and you will be routed to revtrack to pay.

Third, remember that Orientation is August 13, 2015. 8th grade is at 8:30, 7th is at 10:30 and 6th is 1:30 – 4:00. NOTE to 7th graders, we will not be able to issue schedules to students who have not provided updated shot records. Texas requires that all 7th graders have the following vaccinations prior to school start - TDAP Booster, Meningococcal (MCV4), and 2nd Varicella. All students are welcome at Orientation however we can’t issue the class schedule until we have verification that vaccinations are current for 7th grade only.
